This contribution will add an alternative way for your customers to checkout: a new single page AJAX-driven checkout procedure to your Oscommerce store.

New alternative AJAX checkout page loads dynamic content instantly, while customer selects shipping and payment methods, change delivery or billing address without slow whole page reloading. For example, if customer selects shipping method, only shipping area of the page is modified leaving the rest of the page as is. This speeds up the whole checkout process, and customers is presented with a nice user-friendly interface to complete checkout on your store.

AJAX checkout for OsCommerce is using shipping and payment methods from your OsCommerce store, just as in a usual checkout. So all your enabled shipping and some usual payment modules (mostly used) will be available in AJAX checkout.

AJAX Checkout for OsCommerce requires the following to be able to use it:

• A live running OsCommerce Store
• If you are planning to use Authorize.net as a payment module, you should have CURL support (libCURL installed) at your server.
• If you are planning to accept payments using Authorize.net your store should be HTTPS secured by 128-bit (or either 256-bit) SSL for additional security.

Default AJAX checkout page view

Go to the AJAX checkout enabled online store (You may use our AJAX checkout for OsCommerce DEMO). Browse for categories and products you wish to purchase here. Fill in your shopping cart and open an appropriate page in the online store (a Shopping Cart page). At the bottom of the shopping cart page, press Checkout button in order to be redirected to an AJAX checkout page:

If you are already registered under this store and have signed in, you will be present with a default page for sign-in customers described in next paragraph. If not, you will see a default AJAX Checkout page for unregistered customer:

Create an account using a create account form in the left column of the AJAX checkout page, or login using a login form in the right column of the page. While executing an action, AJAX will show you a loading message:

If your created an account or have signed-in successfully, you will you will be present with a default page for sign-in customers:

Choose a shipping method you would like to use, or press Change address button to change the shipping address instantly. In the same way, choose a payment method you would like to pay with, or press Change address button to change the billing address instantly.

If you have selected appropriate shipping and payment method, a Place Order button will appear at the bottom of the page. Please note that if you have out-of-stock products in cart and your store is configured to reject out-of-stock orders you will not be able to complete the checkout process:

This will complete the checkout process by showing a success message.
